The
text Sailing on schooners Etoile and Belle Poule not translated yet
is available in french
The
schooners L'Etoile and La Belle-Poule were built in 1932 for the french
Navy. They are sister ships to those schooners that used to sail to
Iceland on fishing campaign. Apart of their purpose, deck settings and
living spaces with of course the engine that are different. The story
of french fishermen "les islandais" is incredible. (the
last fishing campaign happened in
1935) During
that epoch only for Paimpol harbour about 2000 sailors disappeared or
died in North Atlantic while fishing in Iceland. Their fate marked Iceland
historical patrimony
